Family Talk Homework

20th December 2018

Dear Families,

Our current homework expectations for children in Key Stage 1 and 2 is available within the ‘About Us’ section of our school website. Our additional piece of homework is ‘family talk homework’ for families to complete together during the school holiday.

There will then be an opportunity for parents and carers to join the children for a special celebratory assembly the Wednesday after the Christmas holiday to share what they have talked about.

It is widely regarded in education that talk is one of the most important aspects of children’s learning and talking is at the centre of all we do at Harrington Hill Primary School. It is through talk that teachers teach and children learn. The stronger children’s language skills are, the better their ability to learn will be and parents and carers have a crucial role to play in the language development of their children.

Amongst many other ways we develop language at school, Key Stage 1 and 2 children have been using ‘Valuable Vocab’ grids for over a year now and the EYFS have support from a Speech and Language Therapist to carry out the LaunchPad for Language programme. And, we now value our half termly ‘family talk homework’ as part of that important language development.

We hope you enjoy your family talk homework (see the reverse of this letter) and make time to complete this during the Christmas holiday.

We look forward to seeing you at 9.05am in the Mount Pleasant ground floor hall on Wednesday 9th January to share your family homework.

 With Best Wishes,

 Kirstie Barrett
