Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) at Harrington Hill Primary School



At Harrington Hill Primary we choose to deliver Personal, Social, Health Education primarily through use of the Jigsaw programme.

Objectives/Pupil learning intentions:

Jigsaw PSHE will support the development of the skills, attitudes, values and behaviour, which enable pupils to:

  1. Have a sense of purpose

  2. Value self and others

  3. Form relationships

  4. Make and act on informed decisions

  5. Communicate effectively

  6. Work with others

  8. Be an active partner in their own learning

Includes Sex and Relationship Education in the context of looking at change

There are lots of PSHCE related lessons, activities and events going on at Harrington Hill – in fact PSHCE is interwoven into everything we do! However, here are just a few of the highlights!

Equaliteach workshops

In the Autumn Term, our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils participated in a thought provoking and challenging workshop run by Equaliteach. Throughout the session, the children discussed lots of issues relating to equality, diversity and inclusion and were encouraged to develop their critical thinking skills.

Diversity Week

We celebrate the wonderful diversity that exists within Harrington Hill Primary and in our local community as a whole by holding an annual Diversity Week. During the week, we ask parents and carers to come in to school and share something of their culture with their child’s class. This includes cooking food, teaching games or sharing examples of traditional music. At the end of the week we have a flag fancy dress day when the children can come to school dressed up in the colours representing where they are from!


Say No To Hate’ Workshop

On Monday 11th February, our Year 6 pupils took part in a ‘Say No To Hate’ workshop. The workshop was split into three sessions.

The first session explored prejudices and stereotypes and provided an introduction to hate speech and hate crime.  

The children then went on in the second workshop to explore the differences between free speech and hate speech, the consequences of hate and what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour online and offline. 

The final session was a creative opportunity for pupils to design their own t-shirt focused on key messages from the sessions and ideas for countering hate.

The workshops generated lots of interesting discussion and challenged our Year 6’s to think through some difficult issues.
